Ecology:

Widespread species that uses the common balsa tree (Ochroma lagopus (Cav. ex Lam.) Urb.) and other Bombacaceae as hosts (Hespenheide 1983). Also records from Ceiba pentranda (L.) Gaertn. ["Kapok Tree"] (Bombacaceae).

I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII


Size:

47-69 mm


Remarks:

Morphologically well discernible from E. giganteum (L.). Distribution of both taxa apparently more or less allopatric, with a restricted overlap area in Colombia and Venezuela. Observations in the field also indicate different host plant preferences.
